Due to extreme weather in Eugene, the scholarship application deadline has been extended to Tuesday, March 5 at 11:59pm.
The Eugene Marathon has established a scholarship program for graduating high school students in Lane County. In 2019, TWO (2) $1,500 scholarships will be awarded to students who have demonstrated excellence and leadership in the sport of cross country or track & field, in the classroom and in serving their community.
To be eligible for a 2019 Eugene Marathon Scholarship, a student must meet the following requirements:
-Must be a graduating high school student-athlete
-Must be a resident of Lane County
-Must have been part of a high school cross country or track & field team during high school -OR- participated in Eugene Marathon event during high school (verification will be required upon applicant selection)
-Must attend a university or institution beginning in Fall 2019
-Submit 2 letters of recommendation with scholarship application (see below)
-Submit an essay in conjunction with the scholarship application (see below)
The 2019 Eugene Marathon Scholarship application period will begin January 15, 2019 and will close on February 28, 2019. Scholarship winners will be contacted in early April and will be honored during the Eugene Marathon Weekend (April 26-28).
Submit an essay of approximately 500 words (essays of more than 700 words will not be considered). This should be submitted in MLA style. PDF and Microsoft Word documents are acceptable forms of submission.

LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION
You will be asked to submit two letters of recommendations at the end of the application. These should be from a mentor, teacher, administrator, coach, etc. These should not be from family, friends, etc. These letters will serve as reference checks upon scholarship selection. Please communicate this to the person writing your letter of recommendation.
Please do NOT start the application until you have completed the essay AND letters of recommendation. These will be submitted at the end of the application and can not be mailed or emailed to the Eugene Marathon for review. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
